Northeast Connecticut Kestrel Project |
|
How You Can Help There are two ways that you can help us in our efforts to rebuild our local population of kestrels. First, you can report the locations of suitable habitat in central and northeastern Connecticut that you may know of by emailing us at sayers.tom@gmail.com. “Suitable” habitat in this context means extensive areas of contiguous open grasslands comprising an area of at least 20 aces or more. Please be as specific as possible, including landowners’ names and any contact information. Second, you could email us with the names of individuals or organizations that may be willing to help defray the cost of expenses for box construction. Especially helpful would be donated lumber consisting of pressure treated 4 x 4s or 1 x 12 pine boards. The average cost of building one box mounted on a 12 foot 4 x 4 is $40-$45. If you do the math, our current box total of 55 boxes has run us well over $2,000. Ninety-five percent of that cost has come directly out of our pockets. Thank
you for any help you may be able to provide. |
